Intense Throwing Course
In March we ran our first Beginners Intense Throwing course, until now we have broken the learning process in to stages and students have gathered skills over the course of months or even a couple of years. We were intrigued to see how a two and a half day intensive focus with video support would work.
Such a lovely group, these new potters really hit it off and are returning as a group later this month. Look how happy they are at the end of day three! Quite a contrast to their apprehensive faces on the Friday afternoon.
We worked through our throwing stages, starting with basics leading through our part 2 & 3 skills to ensure students are throwing good quality pots.
Starting with centring on Friday afternoon, this is the root of everything and we concerntrayed on just taking the clay through three simple moves to make a vessel of some kind.
Saturday morning began with instructions to get hight and more control and then in the afternoon we shared how and why we need to get good consistent pot walls and bases.
On the last day we turned (trimmed) the pots, learn handle pulling, joining and discuss adding decoration and colour options.
We have built up lots of tips, tricks and resources over the years, this includes a detailed video course with troubleshooting bonus videos. It was fascinating to see what a difference this made to the students who had time to watch it before the session.
Two and a half days to go from the pot on the left to the pot on the right, we consider that a success! But don’t take our word for it, here is what the students said:
